I have a kitten that is about 6 / 7 months old now. His mother was a ferral cat and the other kitten in the litter died - I have had the kitten since it was about 8 / 9 week old.

The problem is my cat hates me!! It will not come near me - will climb over me to get to visitors / husband etc even though I am the one to feed it play with it nad generally look after it.

The cat has now starting biting - at first I thought it was playing but is now getting more regular and more viscious. I have tried tapping it on the nose and saying no but it just bites my finger - I have tried a water sprayer, threatening to take it to the naughty cats home, eveyrthing I can thing of!!

Any help anyone???

Okay now that you know hitting them doesn't work please stop doing it.Get him checked by a vet to rule out any medical condition. Is he neutered? I would do this as soon as possible.

Go to this website http://www.catsinternational.org/ and click on "Articles" at the top of the home page and read.

There is a part about aggression to people, and info about cats in general.

Also http://www.ddfl.org/ scroll over "Pet Behavior Advice" and when Pet behavior pops up then click on that, go to Cat behavior and it will give you articles about cats. These 2 websites are from EXPERTS on cats, Between the 2 of them they see Millions of cats and know alot about their behavior. Good luck

He is neutured and has been since begining of December - there is nothing on eithe of those websites - I ahd already checked but thanks anyway
Kittens do sometimes seem to go through a rather nasty biting phase which normally they grow out of. However, I once acquired a kitten from a pet shop (never again !) which I subsequently discovered had been born in the wild of a ferral mother. By the time it was about five months old it was totally ferocious to the extent that it was violently attacking everybody in the family and sadly we had to have it put to sleep after it had drawn blood on several occasions. Talk to your vet if the behaviour doesn't calm down.
You failed to say how he was reacting to your other family members. Is it only you he is biting? I have 11 cats and they all are different, one is ferral which I always thought was strange because her sister was a fountain of love. Cats also are very sensitive to smells like perfumes and aftershaves. Sometimes when I have to much perfume on my cats don't want anything to do with me. I would have to say if the cat is singleing out you and is friendly with your family, try sitting on the floor w/him and start slow with play w/strings etc. to make new good memories to replace the water squirting and hitting. Don't give up too quickly they are worth the work.
