I was going to post a question on how hens form eggs etc, but found the answers on old posts. I still have one question unanswered- If hens lay unfertilised eggs, how does the male fertilise it?

It has to be fertilised by the male bird, by mating with the hen before the egg is laid.

hens lay eggs regardless of being fertile or not..

Unfortunately, birds cannot mentruate 2 weeks after ovulation if fertilisation does not occur. They are stuck with going through the whole process whether it was fertilised or not.
