Thank you for all the advice.

Last night we put his bed out of his cage and just fenced off a part of the kitchen around the cage, he used his cage to wee and poo in, still shredding the pad and newspaper and slept out of the cage onthe floor. He still whined and cried even though he was outside the cage.

He is in a routine for toilet training and in the day does not use his wee pad at all unless in the car.

He is 4 months by the way.

There you go, he knows what a cage is for. Only teasing!. He will get the message soon. It's hard work I know and sometimes your home looks like a battle field, then one day hey presto it all comes together. We all had to learn when we were little.

Yes sounds like someone didn't crate train him properly Dogs learn and become comfortable to live in their filth when allowed to do so, if they are not let out at regular intervals. Then we get them and the bad habit is already there. I'm not sure where you got Tyler, but he got use to living in his filth.

Sounds like sep anxiety still if he has only been left for 2 hours like once every weeek, he has grown use to having you around and when you leave he doesn't know how to deal with being on his own. You need to leave him alone for 20 minutes every day just ignore him say nothing to him, don't pay attention to him, put him in his safe area if needed. MAKE sure he has gone potty and he is tired, (exercise, I mean if you go on a hour walk and you are not EXHAUSTED, barely able to speak, hands on knees for support, then neither is he) make him get tired a bit, just watch out he's only 4 months old don't give him running, jumping up and over things this soon his joints are still developing, and give him a nylabone and kong (safe toys) to chew on.

Get to a Positive Reinforcement training class, a trainer can help you.

sounds to me, reading your threads the past few days , your dog needs love and attention he's just like a baby and you are his mum. putting him in a cage and expecting him to do what you expect him to do is just not right, why don't you take him to training classes? and i think you will learn a few things about looking after dogs to.
