Following on from 'Show us...', what's the best way to take a photo of a pet? I'd like to take one of my cat - sleeping poses are not a problem(!), but I want to get one when his eyes are big (pupils dilated) - which would mean its dark, which would mean I'd need flash, which would come out as a scary-eyed devil-cat photo...

Put the light source under or behind your cat. Or 2 words; photo show.
photo shop (serves me right for being fecicious)

Remember that your cat is only about nine inches tall, so get down flat on your tummy whilst photographing kitty. If you want 'devil cat' pictures, then you are correct in your assumption that you will need flash photography in a darkened house, or night time garden/back lane. Out door photoghaphs tend to be the best, though difficult, as cats are usually very unco-operative. And you'll need some patience to get a good picture. Also, avoid bright sunshine and sky back grounds.
