They are very light creatures. I've often wondered this myself and can only assume that they wait for the wind and then launch themselves off and let the breeze carry them. We have a side pathway to our house and sometimes when I go along it first thing in the morning and see a marvellous web strung right across the path that a poor hardworking spider has spent all night creating, I crouch down and crawl under it because I can't bear to destroy it and send it right back to square one.(And probably deprive it of the chance to catch its lunch in the bargain). How crazy is that?
I saw this on TV a while ago and from what I remember, they spin the web and let the wind take it until it attaches onto something. then they go into the middle of the line and drop down to attach it to something else. Thats how they start it off, but I can't remember the rest!

they get one of their friends to climb up the opposing wall and then throw it to them.

i've seen it done... tis a wonderous sie
