I have had both and loved them all. At the moment I have two little dogs and I will now probably stick with little dogs because I have arthritis and it's easier to handle them. As for breeds, until recently I have only ever had mongrels and they have been great. However I have a rescued Yorkshire Terrier who was badly treated. He has a wonderful temperament - not yappy at all and is really loveable.

I love large breed dogs, I have had Rhodesian Ridgebacks and now I have an 11 week old BullMastiff who is absolutely gorgeous.

If I was fitter (Ihave some heart problems, unfortunately),I would have a border collie.Alternatively,if I were younger,I'd have Rhodesian Ridgeback.......wonderful dogs, and very handy for killing the occasional lion!

Medium breeds for me....i have two springers and they are just right.

My father was a dog handler in Sussex Police so i was bought up with German Shepherds.....absolutely beautiful dogs.

wow you all have onderful dogs. the reason i ask is because i want to know how to pick wich is better. I guess that is pretty impossible meaning i have both large and small dogs. I have a Bichon Toypoodle mix a Bichon ****** mix a Terrier toypoodle mix and a large terrier mix but well we think ihe is an Irish wolf hound and i have a english springer spaniel he is adorable.

Ridgebacks are a handful, very strong willed and needs firm handling but with the correct training are superb dogs to have.

Bullmastiffs are the laziest dogs on this planet lol, they dont need a great deal of exercise, are totally loyal and love being with the family, they are the best in my view.

German shepherds all the way............

A little Dog i think a westie or something ( Got one) i like my sofa to much to give it up !!!
My choice medium to large breeds, have a german shepherd X collie, he's slightly smaller than the average shepherd but has the best qualities of both breeds, to be honest he's a bit of a hand full, but i would'nt swap him for the world !!

Our neighbours had a ridgeback and playfully he pinned my husband to the bonnet of the car. We have two shih-tzus.

I have a Weimeraner its a large breed but hes what I always wanted a very strong will'd dog but he keeps me on my toes which I love. I don't think you can make any differences in the size of dogs as all can be good or bad its all to do with the training from the owner everyone has a reason for the type/breed of dog they have normally we get the right dog to fit our lifestyles.
How about a compromise? A Lancashire Heeler is a big dog in a small dog's body. They don't know they are small dogs. They are certainly not lap dogs. They were bred originally to work cattle and should be brave enough to face a recalcitrant cow protecting her calf, or a bull that does not want to move. They moved them by nipping their heels and ducking out of the way. They are also good ratters and rabbiters and so make excellent all round farm dogs. They are obedient if trained with a firm, fair hand and can take part in all sorts of dog activities. They have a short, sleek coat which doesn't moult excessively and they will take any amount of exercise you care to give. Apart from an inherited eye problem (which is being researched at present to find a DNA test) they are a very healthy breed.
Hi I have two rough collies (lassie) dogs. small female and a very large male. wonderful with children and adults alike. need a lot of brushing but well worth it. very layed back. but male has a barking problem. wonderful when out side the house just protects his home, oh and me.!
We have always had rottweilers and german shepherds except for we also have a miniature yorkie as well but he thinks he's a rottie cos thats what he sees when he opens his eyes every morning! Can someone tell me what ridgebacks are like as pets cos when we lose our rottie (godforbid) thats what my hubby wants. We heard they're great dogs to have with kids.
I have had various dogs my two favourites are whippets and yorkies both very loyal and loving.
Big dogs are my choice,Boxers :)
Hi Kipchik, Ridgebacks are wonderful dogs to have, must must must take them training though as they can get sooooo out of control, they are good with children but with their size and combined with the fact that they bound about a lot, it can cause kiddies to be knocked over but im sure you are aware of that with having rotties, they too are gorgeous dogs.
We've had allsorts over the years ...my parents always had spaniels or corgis. My last dog was a Norfolk terrier and I now have a cross GS. They are all lovely.

Bigger dogs a must. I have a labrador and he's brilliant. Fantastic personality, it's like having another person living in the house, always happy, not loud and gives plenty of love.

looking forward to picking up our st.bernard puppy on monday!!
