Hi to all the birdy people, we haven't had a 'meeting' for a long time.... Do any of you know where to buy sparrow sized hot water bottles because I'm sure the poor little things must be needing them?! Have you any nests yet? We think there's a blackbird in my neighbour's tree but apart from that no signs of building here - I'm in Derbyshire btw.

Hi shaneystar, and robinia and gessoo and breezy, I was just about to ask for the recipe for the fat balls when the door went and tablets were delivered..yippee...and then,lo and behold, the recipe appeared as if by magic.... all is well and bed is comfy..no snow in Kent and mr asci has his orders to pick up more bird feed tonight on his way home. Do you think the birds will mind if i use gluten free flour?

Hi all, I'v been saving dog hair and putting it in the forsythia bush where the birds perch near the bird table and it definately dissappearing.

I see a couple of other spotters have had bramblings in their gdns,I had a female one too.

Nothing seems to be eating the thistle seed, I put out about a month ago, I may try nyjer seed instead.

Fat cakes go like "hot kakes" and so dose my money forking out for them, so I've been keeping the empty trays and refilling them with my own fat,nut and seed mix..

"Anthropomorphism" is the application of human characteristics to animals or inanimate objects!

Your birds don't need miniature hot water bottles, they are perfectly adapted to life outdoors.

They may require a little help throughout the cold weather in terms of food and water but that's all.

I'd just like to take this opportunity to alert you all to the dangers of feeding hedgehogs with milk, regardless of Mr David Attenborough's progs... DO NOT PUT OUT SAUCERS OF MILK FOR HEDGEHOGS - THEY CANNOT DIGEST MILK AND IT MAY KILL THEM!

Azimov, sincerely hope that you are joking about the sparrows not needing hot water bottles because I had just decided to invest in some!! I was also going to make some little wooden beds with duvet covers and buy them some nice warm pyjamas!!

I never give hedgehogs milk - they come in and share my roast beef and yorkshire pudding!

Ah...No wonder Shane couldn't get through Robinia ..he just kept getting an answerphone message that said woof woof !!
Mind you his mobile has seen better days...I keep telling him not to bury it in the garden !! I think you had better get Charlie to top his phone up !!!

I have to admit that I do not encourage birds at all, as my cat is a dreadful predator and kills them. Last week she killed a robin and I felt awful.
