A Wee Problem
Hi guys, I have a 2 year old Border Collie and have had him since he was 9 weeks. He's the perfect dog in many respects apart from one thing - he wees with excitement whenever somebody comes through the front door! It seems to be a recent thing, he never used to do it and it's getting worse. Even if you've just popped out for 2 minutes, the moment you get inside its like a fountain!
Does anyone know how to get him out of this? Or why it started in the first place? We can't think of anything that might have triggered it...
Thanks so much!

Hope it helps.

It depends...is he jumping up and weeing all over your leg as he does so? or does he kinda squat crouch when you come in, in anticipation of you reaching down and touching him?, or does he do it when you just reach down and put your hand on him? Lots of times this comes on because when the dog wees for the first time we reward him by touching him, or going "oh goodness what are ya doing!?" which is correcting him, either one makes it worse and they keep doing it for praise or to try and appease you. Check the website above, just to let you know...
I had a client that has a doxie that is doing this everytime someone touches the dog, she piddles. She has a weak bladder thing vet said, genetic. So I told them have no one touch her for the first few minutes, then take her outside and let her piddle there if they HAD to touch her, if they did have to touch her and wanted to help then just pick up her ball and say hello and throw it down the hall, she runs after it, after doing this for the last month when she has visitors she grabs and brings the ball to them. That is her way of greeting now. But she hasn't pee'd on their white carpet since....
hope this helps ~/:\~
