Convict cichlid

Hi my last post was on 14th jan 2006. Andy you gave me some great advise on the problems with my male fish. Unfortunately due to the size difference my male died a few days after the fry became free swimming, the female becoming more and more agressive towards him!!

I'm back on here today as the fry are 9weeks old now and vary in size from 15mm to 5mm. They have this week started to give mum jip and nipping her back and underneath. She seems to be getting annoyed with them and am wondering if it best that i seperate them??

I do have a second tank that has been set up for a couple of months but havent moved them as they all seemed to be getting along fine. Is it time to move them?

Also any advise on diet, they currently have lettuce and bloodworm pelletts, but i am sure they would eat your hand given a chance!!

and finally, sorry this really is the end of my post!! half of the fry are albino, is this normal?

Hi Fishbait. Glad to know your babies are doing well....i heard the splashing of little fins myself last night with my guppies giving birth for the first time and my 2 pairs of Rams both spawned at the weekend.

I'd personally get the babies out or get rid of the female back to the fish shop. They will soon start setting up their own little terratories and might even start pairing off...then you'll have problems !!!

Feed them whatever you want, frozen food, flake, chopped earthworms, live food, they'll eat the lot.

Good that some are albino...One of the parents has obviously got the albino gene in them and it's come out in the fry. It's not that common but not that rare.
