We have a litter ( via caesarian) of lovely healthy little kittens. They are all full of the joys of spring and feeding well being about 2 weeks old now. I just noticed that one of them has one of it's front toes almot hanging off and the other toes on the front feet have hard black scales on them. The feet are a normal temperature and the kitten seems in no distress and is feeding well. It's back feet are fine and the other kittens feet are fine, it's just his front ones.I'm going to take him to the vet tomorrow, but meantime does anyone know what this is, I've been round animals all my life and anver seen anything like it? It's as if the toes are atrophying but they are a normal temperature and there is no puss or smell to indicate an infection. I'm really worried because it looks so odd and I've never seen it before. Any help/suggestions much appreciated.Thank you all in advance.
This could be due to birth trauma, if the blood supply to his feet was restricted for some reason. Your vet will be able to give you an assessment. Please please let us know what she/he says.
Been to the Vet who was a bit mystified too. He's got fungus feet the Vet thinks, though why only his two feet and none of the others is beyond me, and we now have some stuff to treat him with, so hopefully he'll go on alright.
Thanks for letting us know noxlumos - and it's a relief to hear that it is treatable. I had horrible thoughts of the poor we chap having to have his toes amputated. Hope the problem soon clears up.
