when do wasps hatch?

what time of the year do wasps normally hatch as I have just gone to tidy my shed and have been stung by a wasp,and there are loads of drowsy ones in there as well!

These are probably just waking up, mostly queens, get rid of them if you can and you will avoid more nests in the Summer
