I have a retrevier cross bitch which we got about 8 months ago from a rescue centre and everytime we are out walking and she sees another dog or person she pulls on the lead and jumps up on them.We have tried treats when she is good but she gets so excited that she will not listen to any commands and when you try to calm her she starts nipping and mouthing.She is good at any other time it is just when there is anyone or thing about.Another time she gets like this is when we throw things for her and she brings them back a few very well but then she just goes hyper and the nipping starts Can any one help? Please.

Try making her sit when you see people/dogs before she starts jumping.
If she gets hyper when you are throwing toys, stop before she does. eg if she behaves for 3 throws, and gets overexcited by the fourth stop at three.

Try walking her on a Halti, which will give you control of her head, and you can hold the lead so she cannot jump up.

Do as shown on ITS ME OR THE DOG when she gets near to another dog/person and gets excited turn around and walk away. Keep doing that till she stops it seem to work on tv.

You only see the end result on tv after a lot of failed attempts. I once went to a Barbara Woodhouse programme filming, and she only chose the problems she could solve in a short while, and then they only showed the before and after shots, making it look like she was a miracle worker. All these tv gurus be it with dogs or kids or anything else are only using common sense methods that will work eventually with most problems.

Mind you I shouldn't complain, we've sold more Haltis this past couple of weeks than we had in ages!

just to add to the comments made already ive had some big problems with my two dogs, similar to what you have described. We decided to call a behaviourist a bit like victoria off "its me or the dog" we now use a method where we have to say "bah" a noise that must come from the throat and sounds like a growl everytime the dogs are naughty.

Im not going to lie this process to sort them is a taking a lot of hard work but apparently its all about being in charge. You need to make sure you are in charge and dominant over your dog rather than your dog dominating you.

Also we were advised to change the dog food we were giving "bakers complete" now we give raw meat and veg, i was not convinced at first but we were told to look at all the e numbers in the food i was shocked, since changing the food they are much calmer.
