Hi peeps i need some advice my kitten (9 0r 10 months) was spayed on thursday after getting up to naughties in the garden. She came home thursday and slept all night all friday all saturday and most of today went out for a bit. She has only had 3 packets of food since thursday night (not like her she woofs it down normally) she was always a happy kitten very very playful would run round like a mad thing chase anything and everything but she has just laid about. I know its a major operation but friends kittens have been ok the next day and im just a little worried about her. Her scar is fine and shes not crying she looks depressed bless her. Has anyone got any ideas

Not really, I'm afraid. She might have a slight infection. Is she weeing and pooing OK? Whatever, the best thing would be to take her back to the vet and get her checked over. Hope she's OK.

I think she will be okay -- our cat seemed perfectly herself just hours after she was spayed. It was the next two days that she went off her food a little bit and was laying about. At the third day she was fine. Best to check with the vet though and please let us know how she is doing. xx

I'd give the vet a call before taking your cat back - it doesn't sound like she's in the best mood right now for another trip back. She's eating, sleeping and going out, which are all good signs.

Thank you all for your replies she seems a little bit better her toilets are fine and shes been in the garden today ill keep you posted. Thank you once again

One of my cats has a terrible reaction to anaesthetic - I won't bore you with the details but it was very, very frightening for us the first time it happened.

Maybe your cat is having a mild adverse reaction to it - it can make them feel sad and depressed and sick.

I would still make a phone call to the vet though - cats rarely have mood swings and if they're not themselves it usually a symptom of something that is not outwardly obvious.

For example, one of mine wasn't herself the other day and I took her to the vets and it turned out she had swollen glands - easily treated with antibiotics but not physically obvious, apart form her "depressed" mood.

Hi tigilou i have 2 cats which have both been spayed, and they both reacted very differant. Our 1st cat we had done was very much like your, cat very sad and sleeping alot and off her food. As long as she's improving slightly and going to the toilet ok, and is still eatting. Which was our cat was like, it might just take time to get over the operation. However our other cat was completely differant, we let her out of her box and she was running around the house like she would do normally. Jumpping on our kicthen worktops, all on the same day as her OP. I hope this helps you and your kitty. Its awful to see them like that, and not being themselves. Honey xXx
