Hi, a friend of mine is being given an aviary by someone who no longer requires it. One condition that the aviary came free was that the six remaining budgies go with it. It's my friends intention to put his own birds [ 2 parakeets] in the aviary as well. I'm not sure this is a good idea, would appreciate some advice.

budgies are parakeets, and can be very bossy they can look after themselves most parkeets will live together with little problems, mine used to live with 2 cockatiels

They should be ok providing you don't provide them with nest boxes. The trouble comes at this time of year when they start to pair up. I've bred budgies on a colony system and boy can they be nasty.....especially the hens.


As for the parakeets, well it depends what they are. Kakarikis can be damn nasty whereas Bourkes are lovely
