mmmmmmmmm enough now

after reading all your posts.which sound very good i must say you all sound well experianced so you must of started somewhere just like babyblueeyes2 is doing so why was it ok for you to do but your kind of saying its not ok for her to do...what is it 1 rule for 1 and 1rule for another.all she wanted was abit of positivity....

good luck baby i would say the best time to mate your lab is when shes about 2yrs old or after her 2nd.season

sweetdor you are right, we did all start somewhere, but I can only speak for myself. I had owned and trained dogs for over twenty years before I decided to breed my first litter. I bought a carefully bred bitch from a reputable breeder, studied pedigrees and took the breeder's advice on which stud dog to use, read up as much as I could about it and when the bitch was two and a half I mated her and she had one puppy, which I kept. Our breed only has small litters, and I now have seven of them, all home bred, having only bred a litter when I wanted one to keep. I get inundated with enquiries and could sell dozens if I was only in it for the money, but I am not, and am very particular where I let my puppies go to. I would not let them go to anyone who worked full time, or did not have a fully fenced garden, or had very young children. I also put endorsements on the registrations, so that if anyone wants to breed from one of my puppies, they have to have met certain criteria such as breed type and temperament before I will lift the endorsements.

I would suggest going back to the breeder for advice, after all they are the ones who know what is behind the bitch in the way of type and temperament, and will be able to help select the right dog to produce decent puppies.
