That depends on the breed. Some cattle breeds are 'polled' - that is, they don't grow horns, and some breeds do grow horns.
The ones that have horns are usually dehorned for safety reasons (safety to the farmer and to other animals) and as SaxyJag says, this procedure is painless if performed correctly.
SaxyJag, there have been a series of adverts recently for Dairylea involving very male cows... have you seen those ones?
