stomach problems with my GSD
Hi there,
I'm at a loss at the moment with my dog. We have had her for about 7 months and she has a very delicate constitution. She rarely has a 'solid' motion which makes it very awkward when we are out with clearing up etc, and also is bad for her as she is also not putting on any weight. She has been tested 6 months ago for pancreatic insufficiency and the test was negative. I switched her food to the james wellbeloved allergy free for sensitive stomachs and a mild improvement was made.
The last two nights, she has cried most of the night to go out and when she did she had torrential diarhea (sp) last night the same thing happened and she was caught short so we were clearing up copious waste off the utility room floor at 4am. She regularly gets caught short in the house and I am forever cleaning and disinfecting the carpets.
I am becomming very depressed with this chronic situation and it is making for a very stressful homelife. It also means that we feel we can't take her with us when we go out for long walks because of not being able to clear up after her and also when we stay with family as neither of our mother's would be pleased with such an event in their own kitchens.
what's wrong with her and how do I fix it?
many thanks
:-(

i can't contact the breeder as she was a rescue, though she is only 2 and half. I wonder if this problem (which could be expensive to treat, we have her insured) could have been the reason that she was given away in the first place. I have contacted the shelter from whence she came, but they deny that they ever saw her with diarrhea. However, she was there for a couple of weeks and I can't honestly believe that it suddenly started as soon as we bought her home.
thanks for your help though!
Sorry to hear of your problem.. being a GSD lover myself I hate when they have ailments such as this and finding a solution is difficult...I would do as suggested on here and maybe do a recheck of pancreas a couple of times at diff time of day..had one that had a thickening of the wall of the pancreas and everytime previous it showed nothing, then finally one day it spiked and they got a good reading...
Since mine has crystal problems, tendency to have UTI's and allergies which make her stool runny sometimes, she is on Innova EVO. and is doing quite well, also I give her an ester C vitamin and filtered water only and a cranmax pill 2 times a day.
I would see about the rice and such diet to cleanse her system, after you discuss with the vet..I am surprised they did not do this before...mmm?
I still battle with allergies but it finally all evened out for now...hope yours does also mimififi..good luck..~/:\~
