Tom cats spraying

I just saw my cat spraying a bush outside, (tail straight up spraying) thing is he was neutered as a kitten. I thought that having his er bits removed stopped this??

Unfortunately not, although our cat was deballed at a later age (he came with the house we bought and was about three when we got him). It did, however, get rid of his habit of peeing on plastic bags, and he tends to spray now only when he's a bit stressed (i.e. there's been another cat in his garden).

its a macho thing my cat did it when other cats were around, it is only pee coming out and doesnt have the offensive cat pee smell that un-neutered cats have

how old was he when he got neutered?

I have two toms both have been 'done'. One still sprays when i dont let him sleep where he wants ie on my keyboard!

He was about 5 1/2 or 6 months old drgnrdr, why?

double checking some research...it seems if the cat is not neutered early, before 4-5 months old..he develops the muscles that control this function, so if he learns and works these muscles he is able to spray even if he is snipped, the hormone is missing after it gets out of his system, it takes awhile. But if provoked, another cat for example, they want to spray and Urine just comes out, some of the cats I had were done early, they would still try to spray..Back up to vertical surface and their tails would quiver, tip toe slightly on back legs, but nothing happened, others had it done later and they still had the ability to do so. So I was just curious, to see if yours was done later, like it was, or early. SO research is still holding true, of course every cat is diff. but so far about 95% is still accurate. Thanks...~/:\~
