Has anyone ever used eucalyptus oil mixed with olive oil as a fly repellant on a horse. It's an old wives tale but apparently works. I'm just concerned about using oil on his coat in hot weather and wondered if anyone had any alternative suggestions to the olive oil? Thanks.

A few horses are sensitive to eucalyptus oil and citronella oil which is another repellant. One of the best remedies is 1 teaspoon (make sure it's a teaspoon!) of pink paraffin (from hardware stores) in a bucket of water sponged over the horse, this works for hours on end and I've never known a horse sensitive to it.
