Why is my cat panting like a dog ?

My 11 month old cat has just started to pant, tongue hanging out and noisy over the last 2 days. he eventually calms down. He is happy and eating normally, still goes out and plays with the other kitten. I,ve just found it strange wasn,t sure if cats did this. Is it normal ?

Cats can pant when they're hot, like dogs do.

It's probably heat stress. Is your cat long haired or black. If either of these, he might be feeling the heat very badly as long hair is especially unpleasant in the heat, and black as a colour attracks the heat. It will help if you groom him regularly, and if its very hot, rubbing his coat down occasionally with a wet towel might help , as the moisture will evaporate and help cool him down.
