this is going to sound really nasty but i have two dogs that are schnauzer - terrior cross and they have alot of fur. they seemed to get rather messy in the bum area if you know what i mean. do any dog lovers out there have a simple solution to this very crap situation "pardon the pun"
May sound silly but have you tried trimming the fur around the rear end? My puppy occasionally gets the same problem but since I trimmed her fur she hasn't had any problems.
We had toy poodles who also seemed to grow hair twice as fast around their rear ends as anywhere else, but a quick trim with the nail sissors (they had their own pair!) did the trick. Be very careful though, if you nick your dog there, he'll probably have a go at taking your arm off!
We used to have a Norfolk Terrier and had this problem at times. A quick trim round the rear end..after a bath.. but the best thing is regular grooming by a qualified dog groomer to keep them neat and tidy and avoid such problems in the first place.
What do you feed? If the poo comes out runny or soft it will stick, but if you feed something like Eukanuba you will find that the poos are like little hard sausages and don't make a mess.
My elderly springer is now quite used to me giving him a quick wipe with a baby wipe, but I agree with other postings about keeping the fur in that area short.
My shih-tzu gets that when it gets near to having a hair cut. I just sponge it down and comb it through. Not a pleasant job but she can't do it for herself.
