Why don't animals sleep as deeply as humans?

I wouldn't know, but when the ones that hibernate sleep, I would hazard a guess that they are sleeping more deeply than we do.

Oh, I don't know. My dog can be in a pretty deep sleep when I want her off the bed.

My dogs snore pretty loudly, so I presume they are in a deep sleep.

Youre right saxy,when i try to tiptoe out the room they wake and watch me,when i tell them to get out of the room they seem to be in a very deep sleep,snoring but with one eye open when i look at their faces????

regarding your answer "In a Pickle" surely we all need security when we sleep Animals or Humans. I would think that if we slept in the open (in Africa for example) we would stand a good chance of being eaten. But for our security we generally have someone to stand guard or pick a place to sleep that is safe. I would have thought that animals are intelligent enough to do this also.
