does anyone know why my cat goes mad when he see's cotton buds? he gets them out of my bathroom and chucks them all over the floor. When i try to take them off him he growls. its really bizarre so i wondered whether the cotton tips have a smell that only cats can notice???
Don't know about smell but perhaps he thinks they're some sort of prey. We had a cat years ago who freaked out over wooden curtain poles (they were on the floor because we were decorating) we think he thought they were a snake. Perhaps cats have some genetic handed down memory about things from wilder earlier days.
Slightly different but mine goes loopy for nail files, I have to put them safely away as if I leave one out he goes mental and starts ramming them in his mouth and playing with them and chewing them up.
He also loves playing with old carrots and parsnips, you know when they have gone bendy and past their use? We had a parsnip kicking round the garden for weeks because every time I put it in the bin he would rip it open and get it out again.
Spanner! My cat Lexi also LOVES cotton buds!!! You can't even open the bathroom cabinet -- it's like she SMELLS them or something!! LOL! Very funny to watch her playing with them!!!
Young cats especially seem to like things to throw into the air and catch, possibly as part of their hunting skill development. Ours liked polystyrene packaging, although I saw him doing the same with dead mice. Skills came in useful for catching flies however.
Whether there's anything on them they like I don't know for sure. Can't find anything about it, but they won't be happy if you take away the toys, just like a kid really.
haven't had the cotton bud fetish yet.however my cats go daft for bleach or my husbands aftershave.they chew his hands and lick his face for the aftershave.and when i have used bleach and washed my hands they clamber all over me licking and chewing fingers.am not too surprised at this as one of our girls thinks she is next in line for the throne and the other thinks she is a dog!!!! just a normal cat household
