Smell of dog poo.

Morning all. I live in an apartment block and we have a shared enclosed garden. One of my neighbours has a dog who does its business in the garden. My neighbour normally picks up after the dog but sometimes not immediately, maybe an hour or two later. Anyway, with the fine weather I have been sitting in the garden and keep getting a waft of dog poo smell, is this just my imagination or can the grass take on this aroma? I want to mention this to my neighbour but only if my suspicions are correct. Also there are lots of patches of grass that look like they have been scorched, is this caused by dog pee? (This is not due to the good weather as the scorched patches are there all year round)

the scorched patches are the wee as my mate has it in her garden i don't know about grass absorbing the poo smell but it sounds foul can you ask your neighbour to let her dog go to the loo somewhereelse just for the summer? hope you get it all sorted.

The scorched patches are most likely from dog wee as you suggest and as of the smell, I think it is possible that the soil and grass will hold the smell for a short time especially if he doesnt make a very good job of picking up after his dog. Does he actually remove the poo from the garden or just hide it? maybe he puts it in the bin and the bin is smelling. You can actually buy doggy poo chemical toilets that is buried in the ground and all the poo is collected from the garden and placed in the toilet where it is broken down by chemicals and does not smell, maybe you could point this out to your neighbour and mention your concerns.

Thanks folks, will have a word with my neighbour, think I will go with the 'use somewhere else just for the summer' approach initially, as I don't to cause a full scale war.

If you're allowed to, you could go out and water the lawn. It'll help to flush away the smell and will also dilute the pee. If your neighbour spots you doing it then you could casually say why and hint that she might like to do the job herself from time to time.

Was think of watering the lawn and putting something in the water to help take away the smell but couldn't think of anything that would not harm the grass and soil, would probably need to be something natural, any suggestions?

I have dogs, it's the bitches pee which scorches the grass, the best way to deal with it is to water the patch where they have been, as for the doggy poo smell, it does linger of a little while, but it shouldn't last for long, maybe that are strays in the area which are using the garden too or it could be cats, their 's smell worse than dogs, eventhough they scrap earth over it. If you go to a big supermarket or pet store that are detergents that you can put in a watering can and water the patches where the poo has been, which lifts the smell and doesn't harm the grass or any other animals.

Thanks Eric Git, will check out the supermarket for products. The garden is totally enclosed so no other dog could get in. could be cat poo but as they would bury them in the flower beds, of which there are none near, think it is unlikely. Apparently this dog likes to c*rp in the spot in front of my apartment and no other place will do.

Interesting surname btw.
