Do fox vixens scream?

They make some interesting yelps and howls, yes. Not a long, drawn-out scream, I don't think.

Oh yes they do!

I don't say this to argue Catso, but I have heard this blood curdling scream many times and on each occasion it frightens the life out of me. The very first time was terrifying, i really though there had been a massacre in the street. They also give little yaps, but the scream you never forget.

Well, you do learn things on AB; I've heard all sorts of fox noises, but never long screams.

Yes a fox will scream but does not sound like no woman I ever met!! and no its not a drawn out scream.

Yes they do. It's a terrible scream which makes your blood curdle, and until we got used to hearing it, we thought possibly somebody outside at night was being attacked or raped and went out looking for somebody who might be in trouble. If you haven't heard it before, you could be forgiven for thinking it was a woman screaming.

As Wendy says, its totally blood curdling, we had them just outside our house this year, three nights running, believe me, if you've not heard it, don't even want to.
