my puppy is 3/4 JRT and 1/4 patterdale so has a quite fluffy coat ..she only 6 weeks and small..i was examining her when she was asleep this afternoon and noticed when parting her fur (around her nose/mouth and neck) the skin had a covering of what look liked cradle cap in a baby..some flicked out easily and some fetched her coat away. i have an appointment for the vet tomorrow but was wondering if anyone had any ideas ? :((

Sounds like you let yourself in for a lot of fun with that cross, I'm a great terrier fan especially the Jack Russel, no idea if you have kept terriers before but they are great, so entertaining and intelligent, just keep her in her place or she will rule you, keep her occupied or she will become yappy.

Sorry I cant help with her problem, probably is cradle cap, vet will sort it I'm sure.

i am really worried its something awful like mange..is this possible in a puppy of six weeks that has only ever been indoors? only mixed with her mum..littermates and my dog who are all mange free..:(
Not likely to be mange, if mother is free of it, unless you have a lot of foxes in the immediate area or coming in to your garden.

Don't panic, I don't think its anything to worry about.

Let us know when you been to vets please, I'm interested to know how she gets on.
Hi K@tie
It sounds like something my Red Setter had although he was quite old when he got it. They did a skin scrape and tested for mange but it turned out to just be a dry skin complaint and we had to bath him in creamy lotions for awhile.
Hope all goes well at vets
