Hi fishbait Another two are Manx Shearwater and Petrel. Cant think of anymore. Skylight
skylight mentioned petrels. On the RSPB website it only says Leach's storm-petrel for the UK. They make burrows among rocks and boulders and sometimes in ruined buildings on the offshore islands of N and W Scotland. I don't think it burrows underground like your Puffins, Martins and Kingfishers though fishbait.

Hi, many thanks for your answers. i was really finding out about birds that dig. Do the petrels actually dig or burrow, or they just hide underneath rocks buildings and such like?
Sorry just a debate i am having at work.
Many thanks
Brian
Hi again Fishbait Leach's Fork Tailed Petrel . It breeds in numbers on some of the remote islands of NWScotland and of West coast Ireland. Egg is laid in burrow excavated by the male or sometimes in heaps of stones or ruined buildings. The more common Storm Petrel does the same also breeds in S Devon and N Cornwall.
In burrowing the bill is used as a pick and loose earth is kicked out backwards. Skylight
