If humans supposedly evolved from apes then why are apes still about? Is this the "Missing Link" theory?

I seem to recall hearing once that dolphins are evolved from sheep. Yet we still have both.
And seals from dogs.

But man didn't evolve from apes - they are instead said to have had the same common ancestor. It's finding and identifying this ancestor that's the 'missing link'.
The 'apes' that Men evolved from are no longer about. They evolved into the present apes, monkeys and Humans.

The evolution to the present Homo sapien was not as straightforward as many think. There were many subspecies which were unsuccessful and died out. The Neanderthal man is often referred to as one of our ancestors, but infact they died out because their evolution was not compatable with the environment at that time.

Man evolved from ape like creatures jeesh, it's not rocket science!

Dear mycats,
Thanks for your answer. You're absolutely right, it isn't rocket science. That's a completely different subject and I may be asking some questions on that later.
