My son asked me this morning what is the difference between a cheetah and a leopard..after thinking for a while and now feeling slightly foolish I have to honestly say I don't know. I'm hoping that someone will be able to tell me so I can tell him and appear like the knowledgable mother I'm supposed to be :-) Thanking you in advance.

Here is a site that will explain enough for your son to understand the difference, and perhaps you.

in addition to Toureman's site, leopards are the only big cats that regularly climb trees. They carry their dead prey into the trees to keep other cats or scavengers from stealing it. As well, leopards can be entirely black... in fact they often are, whereas cheetahs are always spotted...
The Cheetah is the fastest.
also cheetas don't retract their claws. They are skinny/sleek and built for speed , leopards are big bulky with muscle to climb up with their prey.
