We have had our 11 year old cat for just over a year now, most of the time he likes to be fussed, but sometimes he just turns and bites. Does any one know why cats sometimes beahve this way? Thanks in advance.

Cats have days when they like a cuddle and a fuss, and dsays when they want to be left alone - and it' on their terms, and they'll let you know when your attention is not welcome.
Don't panic, it's nothing you;ve done, or not done, all cats are like this!

Hello Louise
I have had cats with an aggressive streak, too, but I've watched my cats closely and this is something they do amongst themselves...one will wash is companion and show all the signs of gentleness - and then suddenly will bite! But if you're patient with your cat; say 'Ouch!' and then follow up with "Gently, Gently!" in a quiet voice, each time your cat bites you - and keep on showing kindness, eventually it will learn to trust you and (they're intelligent creatures) begin to realise that it doesn't NEED to be aggressive. It may take some time to cure him of this trait, but if you're patient and persistent you'll be rewarded by trust and gentleness.
One of my female cats was VERY aggressive when she was young; she used to hiss, bite, swipe and scratch whenever I went near her, but now she's more gentle than all the others and trusts me totally....as I do her!
Good luck!

I've had a couple of cats and one thing I did notice is that when they start to get a bit irritated they either flick or shake their tail. It's not as aggressive as hissing but like a gentle warning. Just like I suspect the biting is to an extent - their teeth are so sharp that if they REALLY wanted to inflict damage they could!
But then I talk to my cats - tell them not to be so damn narky :D
He is getting old for a cat - and maybe grumpy. lol
