Fish Lighting!

Do fish need to have a certain amount of natural daylight, or is it ok 2 put them in darkness with a incandescent or fluorescent light? Or does anyone know of any good websites wich cud help me? Cheers. xxx

The fish should be OK with incandescent, or better still fluorescent, light. Ideally a growlux and a daylight tube about 12 hours per day. Natural daylight is beneficial for better plant growth, but it also encourages excessive algae.
8-10 hours per day of light is the ideal to aim for....it's best not to have your fish totally in the dark but have some natural light....if your going to use lighting then turn the room light on for a minute or so before you turn the tank light on as fish don't have eyelids and they will be startled by the sudden change.....for more info have a look here....

You should also ensure that there is some lighting on in the room when the tank light goes out, as it avoids the fish being plunged into darkness too suddenly.
