Unfortunately, they hide in the most unlikely places.
We've watched them crawling in & out of a crack within our fire grate, even with a roaring fire going up the chimney!
One also crawled out of an air vent in my car, 'whilst I was driving' - I screamed but managed to keep control of the car, then pulled over & got shot of it with the corner of an A-Z book.
Went to open my car door & found a biggy within a cobweb going from mirror to door handle - hurried into garage, found a very long plant cane & gently removed it!
Have put on a pure white bath robe, looked in the mirror to do my hair, only to find a big black b*gger on the shoulder of it - aarrgg!
Also, years ago when my husband was working late, I was walking downstairs, only to find a massive one sitting on the bottom rung. The children were in bed so I couldn't scream, just heart pounding like a drum! I sat upstairs for three hours, missing all my TV programmes, before he came home & removed it. He thought it was hilarious as he loves spiders - bigger the better!
Having said all that, only yesterday I watched a very unusual coloured spider spin a web from start to finish which was very fascinating - needless to say 'it' was on the outside of our lounge window & I was safely inside!
I'd never hurt or kill a spider though, Mum always said it was unlucky, but I'd be too scared to get that close to do so anyway!!!!
