Get him a Bioflow collar, they are magnetic and help to ease the pain in the joints. Have a look on ebay, you should get one on there. They cost about 30 give or take a few quid. They definitely make it easier for them to get up in the mornings, or when they have been lying down.

Also there are many supplements that you can give, Denes Greenleaf tablets are easy to get hold of, although if you go on to one of the dog pharmacy sites they will have lots of other items. Either vetmedic pharmacy or caninechemists,
and they will explain what each thing does.
Hi, don't forget good old cod liver oil....simple but effective! I would also suggest that even though he is only a little dog, raise his food and water bowls a couple of inches from the floor so that he is not straining his back and neck. One last thing, keep him warm, especially when he is asleep for long periods.....sad but true, my Dane has an electric blanket on his sofa!!!!

My dog had arthritis and it was always worse when she got damp after a walk, and then laid down for a while. Make sure he's really dry and warm after excersise.
Our German Shorthair/Lab cross lived to be nearly 16 years old with the last 8 years or so with arthritis. The Vet prescribed a painreliever (Adequan Rx) medication that she didn't tolerate very well and really didn't appear to help. Along with that, it was quite expensive. An older Vet partner suggested we try standard aspirin, which produced a noticeable change in her gait and ability to get up once she'd lain down. She was on this for the remaining years of her life as did pretty well. We did keep an eye out for any rectal bleeding or stomach upset, which was never a problem. I'm sure she wasn't entirely pain free but did appear to get a lot of relief...

Your JR would probably take 1/2 baby aspirin or less (40 mg) each 12 hours, assuming about an 8 pound weight of the dog... Best of Luck!
I have a dog suffering with this at only 20mths old, Vit C helps, the magnetic collars are supossed to be a life saver so I would invest in one.

In my experience talking about HD, you have to have a dog suffering with this condition to understand the pain not only to the dog but also to the owner. I feel I am being told, you have a dog with HD get on with it.

As I have found there is alot of backbiting and hatred out there. Breeders don't want to know about the litters that have defects, they are more interested in the litter that does well.
I may have a short time with him or he could go onto to living a very long life, how long as any of us got!!!!!!whatever the outcome he is very well loved and he is my third child and just like my children we will spend our days having fun (unless there naughty!!) and do the normally things a family do.

A lot of people also use glucosamine tablets as a supplement in an arthritic pet's feed. Worth a try!
