Each year we go to a different villa in southern France for two weeks. Each year the number of wasps that are drawn to the swimming pool worries me as I have small children. Is there any way to repel the wasps from the area?

Sadly the best solution it to destroy the nest but if you don't have a proprietary killer, don't fancy risking boiling water, or don't know where the nest is, perhaps the best way to divert them from the pool is to draw them away with by putting out sweet liquid or ripe bananas. Or you can hang fruit or raw meat over a bucket of water. Add a little detergent in the water to break the surface tension. The wasps tend to gorge, hit the water and never get out again. You can buy various wasp traps online - although most tend to be sold in the USA. But this hummingbird site shows you how to make one yourself! http://www.hummingbirdsplus.org/trap.html
