my dog keeps choking and gagging
6 Answers
my 7 year old Rottie keeps choking and gagging, this has been getting progressively worse over the past few weeks, started off as just once or twice a day when he got up in the morning or if he was disturbed in the night.
I have taken him to the vets twice for this but my vet just gives him steriod injections as he things the choking is linked to a very bad case of stomac ulcers (an ongoing condition) he suffered at the beginning of December, I don't think it is as he has never had this choking after any of he previous ulcer attacs.
His breathing is starting to sound a little raspy - just a little and I am worried he may have something wrong with his lungs.. I am going to take him to my vet this morning and insist on this being looking into properly.
Does anyone have any similar problems with their pet?

Does he examine him thoroughly? Like listen to his heart and lungs?
I would get a second opinion if you are not happy, rather than try and force this vet into doing something he is not happy about. He/she is not scared of your dog are they? I know it sounds daft but we have a vet round here that is terrified of dogs!!!

my dog keeps gagging like she is going to throw up but nothing comes out...she is in a kennel by herself with straw in the box. SHe is a 3 year old rottie....she has been doing with for about 3 or 4 days...I brought her inside to see if it gets better being in a warm house. She has been on Heartworm prevention since she was old enough to take it and has been tested several times...its been about a year since the last time so she is due for that testing...We also got a new pup(english mastiff) about 3 weeks or so ago and she has been around her..Any ideas? THanks for all your time
