How long do Yorkies and terriers live?

I'm asking because as much as I love my dogs ( I have a yorkie and a yorkie/jack russel cross) they are a bit of a financial tie. Yes, they are cheap to keep, but at the moment I am a single person in a three bedroom house, and because of wage cutbacks I'm finding it tough to make ends meet at times. Eventually, this can be solved by trading down to a smaller place, but I won't do that while they are alive because this is their home too and is ideal for them. I got them from a rescue centre in 1994, and was told they were a year old then.

Yorkies can live up to about 18 - 19 years and JR's to about 15 or 16 so I would think either could live till at least 14/15 years.

As they are both small dogs, I would say the size of the house is immaterial, as long as they are with you they will be happy.

i have seven small dogs, and live in a one bedroom house.
I did at one time live in a caravan and had nine dogs, all living in with me, mostly rescues, including a GSD, greyhounds and collies, although they did get a lot of exercise and had a big plot to run round in during the day.

Blimey that was quick!!

The house is ideal because I can leave the back door open while I am at work or out for the evening, and they'll go outside when they need to. If I traded down now, chances are it would have to be a flat, and I would have to leave them inside for long periods, which I'm not prepared to do.

Ta for the answer and the quick response.
Hi Postdog,
Can you rent a room out? to help with the old finances... and you can always downsize to a smaller house later. As Lankeela says, she/he? is quite happy in a 1 bedroom house.
Don't get so down on yourself eh? those little pooches sound gorgeous :-)....
Now then, I'm off to walk the mutt :-) before the heavens open lol.....
Wishing you all the best :-)
I rented a room out to lodgers for years when I was single and it was very successful.
What about a small terrace with a dog flap. Lankeela right there ways round it. Im sure your dogs will adapt to new surroundings if you move it would be better than you all being in financial hardship.
What about a trusted friend to let them out if you are away for long periods.
I know it sounds unsavory but would they use a litter box.
There must be a way arounnd the moving thing if we all come up with some ideas then .you will have money and your best friends too.

Thanks everyone, but believe me the best answer would be to hold out for the few years they have left. Property round here is very expensive and what I could get for the money on mine won't get much. Admittedly I could in theory get a mortgage on the difference, but I'm not far off retirement myself, otherwise I'd just extend the mortgage. As for lodgers, never again!.
