Why do we have to pay SO much to help poorly pets? My sister and I took my cat ollie to the vets yesterday, he had asthma, heart failure, fluid in the lungs, and various other problems. The bill to treat him was a huge 350 which we just couldn't afford and we couldn't bare to see him in pain anymore, it was so sad :( :( I don't understand why the prices we pay are so high... it cost 40 to put him down and take him home.. otherwise it was going to cost 80 to have him cremated, and 150 to have the ashes back.. so we buried him in the garden... my poor poor kitty :(

I am sorry to hear of the loss of your Kitty. I am all the way behind you, the prices are absolutely ridiculous!
AWWW thats so sad I have cats the eldest is 17 I'm dreading the day, I just hope he dies peacefully in his sleep.
So sorry for your loss. And at least in the garden he will always be close to you. Remember, he was a good friend to you...as you were to him.

much love

Ahhh sweetheart. You did the right thing. You brought your baby back home and he will always be close. I hate that we as loving pet companions are forced to make heartrending choices that we cannot afford.
I hope you know that your beloved Ollie no longer has asthma, heart failure, fluid in the lungs nor any other earthy complaint. He is beautiful and perfect in every way and thanking you for aiding his journey over the Rainbow Bridge to the other side.
You gave a great gift of love and every time you feel a tear or a crack in your heart know that Ollie is near in spirit so be comforted dear fellow animal lover.

thank you encee :o) I'm so sorry to hear about your dog. My vet seems like a really nice man, but he was adding the prices up like it was nothing... 350... it's sickening, to think that he could have been alright, if we'd have just had enough money... :(
I feel so sad for you having lost one of mine just before Christmas. I couldn't bring her home but the vet said that her ashes would be scattered at a pet cemetery. Don't beat yourself up about not being able to pay for the treatment - my cat was very sick and I tried some treatment but she looked at me one evening as if to say "that's enough". Your little cat was very sick and I feel sure that you have done the kindest thing by him. We are always left feeling that we could have done more but you have your memories and in time will be able to look back on these without the guilt. Take care.
its a big might though don't you think.they say these pet insurances are a good idea.could have helped you but even pet insurances have hidden clauses.chin up things can only improve with time.as time is agreat healer.try to remember the good times you had it will help.
I am sorry that you have lost a dear friend and pet.
We pay because we love them and they are part of the family.
we pet owners tend to forget the true costs of medicsal treatment. The drug companies rip off every one including the vets. The training & expertise of vets has to be considered & they do need a brand new Range Rover Vouge every year. We have probably one of the best Health Servises in the world & belive it or not one of the least expensive. So when a pet requires a vets treatment we tend to compare it to our own health service, that is c omparitivly cheap. Have you thought about insurance. Or failing that, have you forgotten that your little cat is an animal.. Animals are not humans, so treat them like animals.
Further to my other reply: Vets love rich pet owners & especially those that are covered by insurance. It is in their interest to keep a sick animal alive for the continued treatment & the income it brings, I have two dogs & a cat. If the cat gets sick it has two choices, lick its wounds better or lay quiet untill the sickness goes away just as it would in the wild. The other alternative is to die. & I will bury it in the back garden. Same goes for the dogs. There are far too many namby pamby pet owners in this country & the vets love you all. My cat is fifteen years old. The dogs are twelve & ten. Yes I love them but they are ANIMALS not humans. Bicker.

bicker, I think your answers are deeply inappropriate. I payed for my cat to be put to sleep, and would never consider the cruelty of killing it myself, The fact that you feel it's right to kill your pet yourself just goes to show what kind of person you truly are. Animals should be treated like any other living creature, or human. How dare you use such sickening words, I'm ashamed that someone can be so cruel.
Well - sometimes there is no other option. In the early 70's over here in Ibiza, there was one vet who visited once a week and used the local square to do injections etc. Our beloved dog caught distemper and was so ill, we begged the police to shoot it, but they refused. I had to give him loads of asprins to keep him sedated,as he was in agony and my hubby had no choice but to kill it. I will not tell you how we did it, I am still crying now as we loved that dog, We killed it because we loved it. Believe me, we tried everything and everyone to help but no one could. We were not being cruel.
I can see where Bicker is coming from re his first few sentances. We live in a capitalist world which is good, and vets are highly trained. Likewise, I just had my boiler serviced and paid a 23 year old 230 for a few hours work. That is life. We pay for skilled services.

However, Bicker, you seem to let yourself down later on. You fail to realise that animals are further categorised. This is not namby pamby, this is anthropology and culture, thus very much part of British culture.

For example we do not eat cats and dogs in the UK whereas China (a third of mankind do). That is because such animals are "DOMESTICATED". This term applied to our furry friends has been in English usage since the 4th century. Therefore loukr's cat was not "just an animal" it was her domesticated animal.

This is the same way as if you were in a woods you would (if needs be) wee-wee up a tree without much ado. If you were in your home (domicile) {Note the letters dom, from the Latin domus=house} and your toilet was broken you would never wee-wee up your welsh dresser would you? But why not? A tree is just wood, a Welsh dresser is just wood! Because you are domesticated!!!! Just like poor Ollie was domesticated.

Just and animal yes, but a loved creature who indeed deserves better than being terminated by a spade.

Bless your heart loukr, and may Ollie be sh4gging loads of sexy felines in Cat Heaven.
What utter drivel
