Worried

Hope someone can help me here, I had to take my kitty to the vet today for a blood test because of a pet food recall from Science Diet. They had a VERY difficult time getting blood from him so they had to give him anestesia. This was @3PM its now 11PM he still can hardly walk, does not resist anyone handling him and he just peed all over himself. He has ALWAYS used the litter box. This time he was so out of it that he just laid there and peed. He walked away the best he could afterwards to get away because he probably thought he was in trouble. I cleaned up the pee and had no choice but to bathe the back half of his body (as if he hadn't been through enough already). The thing is, I had to use human shampoo. Is this ok? I really hate to see him this way and hope he snaps back to reality real soon. By the way the blood tests showed everything to be normal. Has anyone been through this before? when i picked him up the vet said he would be ok in the morning but he seems so far out of it it scares me.
Thank you,
Terry

All animals take to anaesthetics(sorry about spelling), in a different way - I gave mine half a sedative each once because of the fire works, they were in such a terrible state I thought I was going to have to call the vet. I am sure he will be OK by the time you read this.
Dont think the human shampoo will hurt him, my friend uses washing up liquid on her animals and they have no ill effects, whereas I spend a fortune on the stuff !

Hi Terry,
Sorry to hear this, sounds like you have both had a tough couple of days.
I have a dog (sorry i know its not the same) however i took her to the vets to be neutered and they gave her a sedative to relax her, i was devistated when she collapsed onto the floor, the vert assured me that it was normal. Anyway when i picked her up she was very drowsey and basically not with it at all. She has several accidents whcih included pooing, weeing and being violently sick all over the floor. When she went out side it took her to walk to the grass let alone to wee out there. Like the other comment said. Animals can have different reactions to all sorts of drugs used. I am sure with a few cuddles and a bit of TLC he/she will be back to normal in no time. Glad everything was normal with the blood test, i am sure that it is just the anasthetic coming out of his/her system.
Also i think that the human shampoo will have been fine. I have used it before on my pets and they havent had any bad reactions so far.
I know its hard, but try not to worry! I am sure they will perk up!

Thank you all for your comments. Im glad to say he is back to 99%. pmjblue, Yes I am indeed talking about Hills Science Diet. Its the wet food that was tainted with Rat Poison. Not all cans were affected and he rarely eats the wet stuff anyway but he has eaten it and I was taking no chances.
Melons, It killed me too to see him try to get up and keep falling back on the floor. It really got me thinking. He too was vomitting but he had not eaten anything in 18 hours so there was just a small bit of fluid that came out.
Iheartruby, I tried to look for a baby shampoo but we had none and nowhere to get it @11 PM.
ruthann58, Youre right he's back to 99% as I am reading this.
wolf63, Hes about 4 cat years old. He has had anestesia before and it was nothing like this time. Now maybe I can get some much needed sleep tonight.
Onec again, thank you for your support.

Hi, Peanut. Glad your friend is feeling better. I have three cats and they are "family". Anyway, I thought this recall thing was just in North America; I didn't realize you were having recalls in the UK. Here is a site containing recall information.
