We bought french bulldoga puppy oscar from a breeder in liverpool a fortnight ago it cost us 750 .Five days after we got him he became ill took him to the vets and it is parvo whitch can be a killer .We had six weeks free insurance but the bill is already at 1000 and the limit is 1,500 .We have had no payment back from petlpan yet everytime we visit the poor little mite they want another 500 it is emotional blackmail but we just want him back well. The incubation period for parvo is 7to 14 days so it looks like he came with it,but the breeder is denying responsibility.Oscar went nowhere only our back yard no contact whatsoever with any other dog.

Hi, sorry to hear about your puppy. I'm not really sure what your question is though! Was the six weeks free insurance given as a Kennel Club deal? If so I am assuming that the breeder is a registered one and as such you are with in your rights to report him to the KC. Payment can take a while to come through from any insurance company.....so stick with it and I'm sure your vet will be understanding and offer to stagger any outstanding bill into monthly payments. Talk to your vet about where he thinks the virus has come from, although I do agree it does sound as if it has come from the breeder and if you have to [and the bill gets really high] take the breeder to small claims court.
Hope that Oscar gets well soon.

Years ago my Vet told me that my puppy had Parvo - he had been innoculated. His illness was not too severe, been it seems it can still be caught.
Hope pup gets better. Don't forget to thoroughly clean back yard with bleach solution before Oscar comes home. Also good idea to thoroughly clean all floors etc.
Good Luck
just a idea
you could put a advert on the website that was advertising the pups to see if anyone else had brought a pup from the same breeder to see if they have the same prob.
if it is kc reg you could ring the kennel club to see if there have been any probs with the breeder as we had a prob with our samoyed and phoned them and found out that the mum had been stolen.
Hi bobby atkin i am so very sorry to hear about your puppy and i agree with divegirl and Annlinda.
I do hope he makes a very speedy recovery, and please give him lots of cuddles from me.
Wishing you and your little one love and good wishes megan.
As he became ill after only five days then I would expect the breeder to accept responsibility (although to be fair they may not have known they had the problem). If your vet can write something to say that is his opinion, you could try sending the breeder a copy and saying you will expect them to meet any shortfall on the insurance, or else you will take them to the small claims court and report them to trading standards, as you have bought 'goods' that do not meet the standard required, i.e. living a normal healthy life as a puppy should.

I don't think the KC will be able to do anything, unless it can be proved that the breeder has broken any KC rules, which they probably have not done. Try contacting the breed club, and tell them what has happened. If the breeder is a club member, they may be able to help you to persuade the breeder to accept responsibility.

None of this makes it any easier for you, and I truly hope the little chap gets over this 100%.
Should have said, is the dog KC registered (just that 750 is not a lot to pay for a Frenchie)?

Also vets are sometimes able to claim straight from the insurance company. Speak to PetPlan and see if they can give you any advice.
