3. They have no venom.

5. Called camel spiders because they live in the desert.
lol ...but do they scream whilst their running?? Just got visions of a spider legging it through the desert screaming!! lol

NO WAY. i think i might have to get me one of them, i hope they scream louder than my kids. they might even keep the inlaws away. lol
Having served in the army and been north of Aden, I can tell you I've seen quite a few of these beasties.
And Merton, I have a colour slide of one we caught in our tent. It was a female, and photographed alongside a ruler, it measured 10 inches.
Though non-poisonous, we were told they can carry diseases, and anyone bitten by one would have to stay under observation in the military hospital for a week or more.
I am unaware of anyone I knew ever having been bitten by one, but one look at their mandibles, like four big rose thorns, and you'd want to stay clear!

since posting the question i have had a look on the net about them and they look alot bigger than 6 inches, i think i will find another way to keep the inlaws away. my brother is posted out to Iraq in a few weeks, i might have to tell him all about them. lol
Ewww had a look at some pics too!!!! makes me shiver!

I guess this is what happens if you get bitten but I can't read (german?) but my god it looks painful!!!

The language is dutch, the infected hand is the result of a brown recluse spider bite, a lot smaller than the camel spider, but with extremely powerful venom, which causes necrosis.
