Hi, I recently lost my Dane and after much thought and heartache have decided to get another....so let me introduce you to Sekara, she is a 5 mnth old rescue blue harlequin and she will be with us from Saturday....so happy I feel like I've just given birth myself.....lol

Oh she is smashing but remember Lisa ,dont compare Sekara with your lost loved one they are individual and she will give you much joy but perhaps in other ways.Many happy years together for you and well done to going to a rescue for her.She will make a [great] companion

Cheers garner....thereis no comparison to be made looks wise...Floyd was a mis-match breed [harlequin x brindle....sort of came out a dark beige....lol] and personality wise they sound poles apart. Just really missed having a giant breed around [have three Yorkies and two cats].....We just have lots of love and room.....lol

She is gorgeous! I always loved danes and especially harlequins. Unfortunately I'm not in a position to have a dog myself so it's lovely to hear that she's been re-homed to such obviously caring people - all the best.

Thank you all so much for your kind wishes....must admit to having had a little cry tonight....still miss my boy so much....and am a little overwelmed [sp] that he is being replaced so to speak [oh....and that you lot care so much....lol]. So thank you for all your lovely replies and I'll keep you posted on her progress.

Dont ever think of him as being replaced in anyway!
You shared many many happy times with him, and are in now way replacing him what so ever.
You are however, giving another beautiful and very different dog a chance at a fantastic life with a very loving & caring home :)
I really wish you all the best and hope to see regular pictures of her progress!

Congratulations Lisa.
I have 4 GD's.Two are five month old merle puppies that we bred.We meet up with the new owners of our other puppies for a walk on the beach,now that is sight to behold.
Nothing ever fills the gap left by a GD.The only breed for me.
She's beautiful.Many happy days ahead of you.I'm sure she will bring you much joy.

So pleased for you, but so sad that a beautiful dog like this finds itself in a situation where it needs to be rescued. If only people would stop and think before they breed or buy a big dog, can they really cope and offer a lifetime home to the puppy.

Totally agree with Lankeela.To many dogs end up in rescue because the new owners don't know what they are taking on.With Gd's it's usually they didn't realise they got so big,,doh.
Thankfully all my pups new owners had previously had GD's or another giant breed,so fully aware of their needs.
My 8th Gd was rescued.She was locked in a small 2foot by 4 foot shed/kennel.It took us many months of love and patience to get her to trust us.How people can mistreat an animal is beyond me.
At least your pup has been given a fresh start with a family that loves her.
We lost our 8th GD two years ago,and she is at rest on our plot of land.Every morning when I got to tend to the poultry I say good morning to her.
You boy will never be replaced,but your new girls will take some of the hurt away.

4 Danes......Fee you nutter.......lol.

I have spoken to the woman who is having to re-home Sekara....She bought 2.... yes 2 Dane puppies within a week of each other....and then realised what she had taken on and that she couldn't cope [shocker].

Anyway....haven't slept much....sooooo excited, I'm going to spend the rest of the week Dane proofing the house....it's all coming back to me how much chaos and destruction they can cause.....hehehehehe can't wait!
