I got scammed! ...... sort of?
14 Answers
Hi, as some of you know I was supposed to be collecting my Dane puppy this weekend....things, however, didn't go to plan! After speaking on the phone it was arranged that I would drive to Stafford [from Essex] on Saturday morning to pick the puppy up. I didn't have the full address of the home....just the post code, so although I had the name of the road I didn't know what number house to go to, no problem....I thought! Ring when I'm there. Isn't hindsight a wonderful thing? Because we left our house so early [6.00am], we didn't ring the lady until 7.30 and there was no answer, we were almost there so carried on driving..... So, let's cut along story short....she never answered her phone and hasn't since [landline, not mobile]. I did not hand over any money for this dog and am at a loss as to what has happened. Please do not judge me as a fool, I just thought that I was offering an unwanted dog a second chance.....just be warned!

I've been watching this unfold with great excitement, just waiting for your new puppy pics - so this is a bit of a blow. But could it be just a minor hiccup, do you think, as no money has changed hands so the seller hasn't gained anything, has she?
Perhaps she misunderstood your day to pick up the pup and has gone away for a few days - the phone has thrown a wobbly - anything along those lines. Don't give up just yet - we're all rooting for you.

I think I have thought of every case scenario possible....and would be over the moon if she were to get in touch and tell me that I could still have her.....I'm just so bluddy gutted, I've spent the whole of the week end crying as has my little girl. We'd already fallen in love with her. I suppose we'll just have to wait and see now!

Lisa I get the impression that you hadn't seen the pup before you went to collect her. If an old hand at owning dogs could give you a bit of advice. Find a good breeder (if you need help contact great dane club) approach the breeder and tell them you want a pup, when pups are born visit at least twice before you make up your mind which one to have. This experience may be a blessing in disguise. Best of luck. Oh just remembered there is the KC website that can give you a list of accredited breeders.

Hi everyone, I have tried everything can think of, looks like it just wasn't meant to be. I had already been in contact with various dane rescues [even before this happened].....and have been frowned upon for many reasons, I could not offer foster care as I work part-time, my daughter was too young [she's ten], my fencing was insufficient [even though I safetly house my other, much smaller dogs, my other dogs!.....the list goes on. I am aware that ground rules must be layed down by the rescues, but the the words brick wall and banging your head come to mind! We have now started to look for a puppy fom a breeder, I would dearly have loved to rescue a dog, but as much as I love my dogs I can't keep upsetting my daughter....''we have a dog....we don't!!!''. Thank you for all your replies.....I'll keep you posted.

Have you tried:
http://www.freewebs.com/manytearsrescue/dogslo okingforhomes.htm
Go down the page (alot) and they have two Danes, Scooby a 2 year old fawn dog and Tia a 4 and a half harlequin (she is reavailable). They say to e mail [email protected] about rehoming them. (They have lots of pictures).
They rehome all over the country. They also have a 4 year old St. Bernard as well as lots of dogs of all sizes needing good homes.
