I was at the vets recently and sadly a woman who was in the reception was waiting to have her small dog put down. I heard them charge her 49;50. This is a very reasonably priced surgery though. I would have thought it could vary greatly.
I paid about 70 last year which included the cremation
I paid 60 last year which included cremation.
If it's really the best thing to do for your cat maybe your vet would let you pay over a couple of months. I know that my vet would not see an animal suffer because the owner was unable to meet the cost all at once.
The vets I worked at charged 38.90 for euthanasia including cremation unless you wanted ashes back then the price increases.
With respect, sue didn't actually say she couldn't afford it, just that there was no point suggesting the PDSA as she didn't qualify.

Sorry you find yourself in need of such advice sue, hope you get through this ok.

I'd phone round a couple of vets in your area. Depends greatly on whether you are going to take puss home for a garden burial or whether you want cremation included, either with or without having the ashes returned.

thanx everyone for feedback
I paid 57.50 to have my beloved cat Sonny put down a few months back.

They kept him in the freezer overnight so that I could collect him the next day and bury him at home.
Obviously not just noknowledge, but no sensitivity or tact either.
i had to have my cat put down the other week and it was 24 we took him home the same day and buried him in the garden :-(
I took a stray cat to be put to sleep and the vet only charged 15. This was much cheaper than I was anticipating. Perhaps he gave me a special rate because the cat wasn't mine.
