Spider bite

Help!!! Long story - have been seeing my partner for months. He says he is separated and only goes home to see his kids every other weekend - but he cannot call because he has not told 'estranged' wife that he is seeing me!! His latest reason to procrastinate is that she has been bitten by a rare poisonous spider which may result in paralysis. Apparently she some sort of wound which looks like a festering burn or something... but by that point, quite frankly, I had switched off... Is he lying??? Help!!!
