Brother and Sister cats

We now have two 3 month old kittens following the deaths of our last two cats after 13/14 yrs both dying within weeks of each other last year. We've never had a male though and his sister. Both have their final jabs tomorrow when we shall let them out into our enclosed garden for a while. Given that some males mature differently and that we cannot neuter them until six months, should we take special precautions? I assume brothers and sisters in the cat world don't have the same issues as we do.

Technically they can both be sexually mature by six months, and yes, the answer to your question is the male will gladly mate with his sister if she comes on heat! However, if you are planning to get them both neutered at six months then I don't think you will have a problem. What could be a problem is if you let them out and a randy local tom cat who knows what its all about persuades your female to 'come up and see his etchings'. Your boy will probably have far more trouble persuading the local totty to put up with his immature advances.

I agree with Lankeela. I tried to phrase an answer to your question earlier - but she has done so perfectly.

When your male hits puberty he will be pretty eager to meet a girl - any girl.

Have fun with them. I have a brother and sister, two year olds and they are a handful and fun and frustrating..
