Do Cats and Apartments mix?
7 Answers
I am a college student living in a normal sized apartment. I go to school everyday from 7-1 and work about 20 hours a week sometimes 3-10:45 after school. My boyfriends family just found a stranded kitten (about 4 weeks) but they cannot keep it. Other than school and work, I am home the majority of the time. I love cats and would love to take her in, but am worried that I would not be able to give her enough attention given my school and work schedule. My boyfriend is willing to help by coming over and feeding her but he goes to school from 8-4 everyday and has practice from 4-7. I know that kittens need to be feed very often in the beggining so his mom has agreed to take her to work with her for the first little bit if I can take her. What do you think? Do I have too many time obligations that will lead to the kitten being unhappy?

I dont think it would be a problem aslong as you are prepared to be cleaning out litter trays and can afford the vacanations, fedding, vets fees & insurance etc.
We had 15 cat/kittens in our house in january, and me & my partner both work full time, so i can pretty much say that aslong as you have plenty of toys and things for them to play with, kittens can keep themselves occupied!
We now have 7 cats and still both work full time, and our cats are all doing ok ( apart from Smokie Jo mentioned in the post below!)

The automatic feeder is a really good idea, also when you go out leave a radio on so that there is a bit of background noise, and the obvious abundance of toys, just so long as someone pops in to feed her while she is so young, she should be fine, I don't know if it's a good idea your boyfriends mum taking her to work though as this could be really unsettling for her, do you have anyone else who would be willing to pop in to feed her?
You sound as though you really would be a lovely human for a cat to have. 4 wks is very young and she probably needs her mum now, although if she's been lost or abandoned, she'll need lots of tlc. She's probably not even properly weaned yet, so I'd suggest a thorough check up at the vet's first, but yes - take her in- what chance would she have without you? Good luck to both of you. K.
