Hi, Im getting 2 kittens in a few weeks and cant wait but im a bit nervous. Ive never had cats before so thought id post on here and see if anyone has any good advice for me. Also im worrying about the feeding, when and how often should 9 week old kittens be fed? and because ive got two do i need two bowls and so double the food or do i just use one bowl? we are going to use the pouches of food so do i need to put two in or one per feed?? Any other advice would be great, thanks Beki x

They need to get used to their surroundings inside the house first. You will need a litter tray and decent litter which you will need to clean out every day. Get 4 bowls. 2 for solids and 2 for water and cat milk. Never give them cows milk as it is indigestable. Try then on kitten food and give them half a pouch each twice a day. You can also get a 5th bowl for kitten crunchies which they can share and go back to when they want.
Get them registered at your local vets straight away and get them micro-chipped. The vet will also advise on when to get them spayed, fleas, worming and any other stuff you're concerned about.
Good luck!

Iams dry food is very good for them but I feed my cat both Iams and cat meat. Use frontline flea treatment, cheapest place I have found is http://www.blackcatmedicines.co.uk
Drontal worming tablets are the best I have found, get them from the vet.

Your post made my snigger. I adopted my two cats when they were 18 months old and still full of energy. The thought of living with two turbo charged kittens horrifies me - but that is all part of the fun of being a cat slave.
Enjoy your cats and obey their every command. Post pictures if you can - kittens always look so small and innocent.

Oh lucky you...I have three oldies and your post fetched back all those memories of years ago. Please remember your scratching post you will need it thats when they get fed up with curtains..wallpaper..carpets... settees and of course your legs lol.Enjoy its all worth it and dont forget your babies toys, mine use to love a ball of wool still do when they are in that frame of mind.Happy days ahead.
As well as all the other good advice, just be very careful when you're walking about and closing doors etc, cos, little kittens ,like bigger cats, will suddenly move very quickly in front of you,or follow you through a closing door and be in real danger of being badly crushed. This almost happened our cat Spike when he was a tiny kitten, and I learnt to be very careful closing doors after that !
Awwwwwww - reminds me soooo much of getting my cat Fang when he was a kitten!! I was told he would probably hide from me the first few days - err nope...decided that the best place to lie was in the crook of my elbow. That was fine until he grew to be a 14lb cat!
Make sure you're very aware of open windows upstairs _ I had left the little skylight window open & -gawd knows how as a kitten he managed to get there - but I woke up one night to see the little bu**er hanging half in & half out!
I do suggest pet insurance if you can afford it - I always thought that it might be a bit of a rip off but Fang is now 12 & I would pay the world to do the best by him.
Have fun!!

Aside from all the excellant practicalities mentioned by everyone......give them lots of LOVE! Hold them, stroke them, cuddle them, let them sleep where THEY want to sleep,(well-they will do it anyway!)have lots of physical contact and they will bond with you for life. And don't forget to talk to them-they will always tell you what is on their minds...LOL!....loudly!
And you will never have to go to the bathroom alone - my tom cat comes to the bathroom with me and sits and talks to me. If I take too long at the loo he leaps onto my lap and continues his conversation.
It is 0340 hrs and they are running around like two demented ...well..cats. They will go to bed soon - hopefully. I love them to bits - when I don't feel like strangling them.
Best wishes with your new babies.

bekib: congrats!!! awww reminds me of my 2 babies; they're 5 n 2 now.
so everyone's given gr advice already
you might wanna think abt softening their kitten food with a little water as they're small and even kitty foods' a lil hard for them
i use one bowl for them for their food and one for their water; they're inseperable so they eat and drink together! lol
make sure you get them their vaccines, i got them both @ six months when they were spayed and neutred
but most important : take loads of pictures as they grow up so quick lil monsters! lol enjoy them @ this time they're adorable
awww...u make me wanna go out and get another one! i miss mine bein small!!!

congratulations on your new arrivals. cats are wonderful animals and so full of joy to have. you have had good feedback and great answers too. i used to own 9 cats at one time and they were a joy to have. make sure you buy a scratching post as cats love to claw and dig their claws into things. please make sure you neuter your pets which you can do from 6 months of age. you dont want to hear or have any unwanted pregnancies. good luck and hope you have many years with your kittens
