hamster's fed up..........

hello,
my hamster's been sad and moping about his cage inconsolably the last couple of days.... he hasnt been eating or drinking all that much, just lying on his back with a depressed sad expression on his face (maybe its sick of eating nuts??) I've tried to get it out of its ''mood'' (do hamsters have these a lot?) by tickling him and putting his favorite toys next to him in his cage but it only squeaks half heartedly and then turns over to mope some more....
I dont know what's wrong with it and am wondering if I should take him to the vet for a checkup?
I'm very concerned so any feedback appreciated!

It's old and about to sprout wings. They only live two summers normally.

my sister hamsters were depressed once and had to take medication......man that was funny

I didnt take him to the vets yet as I thought dopey, my hamster, was having moodswings...... he gets these when he's eaten too many cornflakes and nuts during the week and then bloats up and mopes about coz he feels fat and flustered and fed up...... (i know as he's done it before and didnt eat for a few days until the bloatedness wore off).

It hasnt pooed today as yet,... what do you feed hamsters to help them out? he's even more grumpy and has a constipated expression on its little face now :(

I would try and give him some fresh fruit or veg as the water content in that will make him go the the toilet.

Make sure his water bottle is working properly lack of water might make him tried and constipated. If ness. put water bowl in cage instead....see if he drinks from it.

As I said earlier, take him to the vet!!!! If this little animal has been constipated & has been like that for several days, you're neglecting him and if you really care about him, for God's sake, get him some medical help. I'm sorry if I sound harsh, but you really should take him!!!

check his teeth, perhaps they've grown too long making it hard to eat and therefore really uncomfortable, the vet will be able to trim them back if this is the case, also try putting some fresh treats in such as grapes, apple, cucumber etc.

Is it a syrian Hamster they can suffer from wet tail this would make him depressed looking check his tail for wetness also flat ears sad face if this is the case you can try cleaning out his home with a pet disinfectant evey day and also fresh water everyday i hope he is better soon i will be watching
