If I take out pet insurance how soon can I start a new claim?

My cat has been fighting with a bully cat who bullys all the cats in my road, he has had a minor injuries so far. If I take out pet insurance how soon can i make a claim, knowing my luck I will take it out today and he will come in tonight sctrached to bits.

It depends on what company you have your insurance with. I know PetPlan won't accept a claim until 14days after the start of the cover but different companies will vary.

I think the 14-day embargo on claiming is pretty much standard-most companies I know of have that in place.

They also won't cover any existing conditions, but you probably knew that!

Would it be worth keeping your cat in for a fortnight? Or is that a bit much to expect of him? Poor boy.

Most insurances have the 14 day start up limit, but also have an excess, so most minor injuries would probably not be covered as they would be less than the excess. I'd put the money in a bank account for him and use it when you need to in case of a major injury/illness.

I always thought that all cats were laid-back and conceited. But when I got my first cat about six years ago I got a bit of a surprise.

George was old, nervous and had previously been a stray. He was in a bad state when the CP caught him. I started reading cat books and found out about cat bullying.

George died last year and I now have two 2 year old siblings. They are always fighting and I never know if they are playing or really fighting. The female sometimes beats up her brother and he usually ends up at the vets with infected wounds. It is hard to see the wounds.

I have friends who have bully cats coming into their houses through their cat flaps and eating their cats food. Cats are terrified to go out as the bully is lying in wait.

I think that there should be a Dangerous Cats Act and owners of bully cats should be held accountable. :-)

The problem is that all cats look like a picture of innocence and it is hard to imagine any of those angelic faces belonging to a cat bully.

I have just looked down at my little Frankie and his white nose has a little red wound that wasn't there a little while ago - what is a mum to do?

gables, lankeela makes a good point about the excess-not sure if it's the same for cats, but I am with M & S for my dog's insurance and they offer a no-excess policy, for very little more (I am talking pennies!)

why dont you go down there and sort the bully out himself.....you know put a peg in its tail etc.....

you know most bullys are bullys cos they were bullied themselves.......you dont want your cat to be the bully......

go peg him up!
