My cat has come home covered in tar.
I got most of it off of his coat, by washing it off then I had to cut chunks of it out.
Now he's getting agitated and wont let me anywhere near him to get the rest off.
He has some on his pads and in between his toes and he keeps trying to lick it.
Is tar poisonous to cats, will it make him ill ?
Should I just leave him to calm down a while then try to get it off of his paws, or is this urgent enough to have to take him to the vets ?
Please reply quickly because Iam really worried about it!

He is looking after the little cat now and has phoned around local vets, etc to say he has her if anyone asks. The cat has a collar with a bell on it (they've temporrarily called her Bella!) but no contact details, so maybe your little fella is being looked after by someone too.
Cats can be so mean! They make you worry so much, but instead of getting told off they get extra love! I am coming back as a cat without a doubt

hello babybombo.
hope this gets on - having problems lately..
we had hoped to have heard from you by now - as i & i'm sure the others on here are all hoping it all works out for you.
whatever the outcome was - would you please (if you feel up to it) come back on here and give us all an update.

Hi everyone I am extremely sorry for not posting yesterday, had alot of things on which got in the way!
Glad to tell you all that he is perfectly well
Iam overjoyed that hes ok. We got him back yesterday around teatime and the vet said he was looking bright and alert so that was a good sign.
He has to go back on monday for a check-up to see if any damage has been done to his organs but the vet seems optimistic and he is back to hopping about being his usual self and annoying our little female cat Cleo!
Thanks excelsior for your concern throughout and sorry for worrying you by not replying earlier. I noticed that your other posts have gone missing, glad you were able to get back on. AB has decided to stop e-mailing me when I have answers!
Thanks to everyone for all your concern, Whiskers is watching me type this not having a clue about all the fuss he's caused !
Sorry to hear about your little cat josaphine, any luck in finding it yet ?
Thanks again everyone =)
